Our specialties
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
ADHD is a psychiatric condition that affects both children and adults. Symptoms include inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. These symptoms can interfere with daily activities, including academic performance, as well as interpersonal relationships. There are different types of ADHD including hyperactive, inattentive, and combined types.
Diagnosing and Treating ADHD
The process of diagnosing ADHD involves a comprehensive evaluation that is offered at both our Sarasota location. This evaluation includes a thorough clinical interview with the individual, evaluation of family history, and behavioral assessments. The evaluation may incorporate feedback from family, teachers, or other individuals in the patient’s life.
Treatment options for ADHD typically involve a combination of medication and behavioral therapies and/or coping strategies for ADHD symptoms.
Undiagnosed ADHD can have serious consequences, affecting academic achievement, career success, and relationships. Individuals with untreated ADHD may struggle with poor time management, inconsistent performance, and difficulty following through with tasks. This can lead to lower self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and increased risk of substance abuse. In children, untreated ADHD can lead to disruptive behavior in school, poor academic performance, and social challenges. Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial in minimizing these risks.
