What ADHD Is
ADHD is a psychiatric condition that affects both children and adults. Symptoms include inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. These symptoms can interfere with daily activities, including academic performance, career success, and interpersonal relationships.
Individuals with untreated ADHD may struggle with poor time management, inconsistent performance, and difficulty following through with tasks. This can lead to lower self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and increased risk of substance abuse. In children, untreated ADHD can lead to disruptive behavior in school, poor academic performance, and social challenges. Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial in minimizing these risks.
“ADHD isn’t chaos—it’s creativity in motion, waiting to be guided, not silenced.”
— Ciara O’Connor, PA-C
How We Diagnose ADHD
The process of diagnosing ADHD involves a comprehensive evaluation that is offered at both our Sarasota and Tampa locations. This evaluation includes a thorough clinical interview with the individual, evaluation of family history, and behavioral assessments. The evaluation may incorporate feedback from family, teachers, or other individuals in the patient’s life.
Effective Treatment
Treatment options for ADHD typically involve a combination of medication and behavioral therapies and/or coping strategies for ADHD symptoms.
