Our specialties
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
PTSD is a serious mental health condition that can occur after an individual experiences or witnesses a life-threatening or deeply distressing event. PTSD affects both adults and children, and it often disrupts daily life.
Diagnosing and Treating PTSD
PTSD is diagnosed through thorough clinical interview and in-depth evaluation of the individual’s reported symptoms. There are different types of PTSD including chronic PTSD and complex PTSD. Chronic PTSD refers to the long-term impact of trauma, where symptoms persist for an extended period and often become more intense or pervasive over time. Complex PTSD can involve more severe symptoms, including emotional dysregulation, dissociation, and difficulty forming relationships. Complex PTSD treatment typically requires a more intensive approach, often combining therapy, medication, and support for building healthier coping skills and emotional resilience. Acute stress disorder can occur immediately following a traumatic event (days to weeks) and can be a precursor to PTSD if left untreated.
Effective treatment for PTSD often involves a combination of medication and specialized psychotherapy.
